A few more things I noticed. Btw, this is a frugal install.

I've been using DSL-N for about a week, and it has only locked up a few times, usually either under heavy RAM usage or once when I downloaded ubuntu. I've tried aMule, and I can surf the web for hours without lockups.

aTerm doesn't always show up when I load DSL-n. Usually, but not always. Also, once, the fluxter was completely white, with no buttons. This was almost fairly common in RC1, but only happened once so far with RC2. Running mydsl-load causes aTerm to reappear; like magic.

Lots of menu items don't work. Usually the ones that try to load mozilla (E-Mail, IRC, Cups Admin).

I noticed that the dillo getting_started.html was commented out. I understand why DSL has it, and why DSL-N might, but that thing is so annoying. I especially dislike how the right click menu shows up on boot. That is weird.

Many of the menu items have already been reported in the RC thread and fixed in the next RC.

The Getting Started should be read completely. If it is, then many questions will have answers. Includling how to stop it from appearing. On the importanmeter it is much closer to III than DDD.

I have read getting_started completely. What you don't seem to realize is that modifying the .xinitrc file DOES NOT AFFECT A LIVECD. It is still there on reboot! It keeps showing up, no matter how many times you fix it! I know I could remaster the CD, or use a frugal install, but some people won't go thru that just for this minor annoyance.

Btw, I use a frugal install now, so the getting_started.html scourge will not affect me personally anymore. If you brought it over to dsl-n, all I would have to do is comment out that line in .xinitrc. I was only making a suggestion to you to make your project better. Perhaps a bootup cheat code? So all someone on a livecd has to do is type "dsl nogs" or something like that?

ps doesn't work.
56k dialup will not hang up. I had to pull the plug from the wall.

Both of these programs complain about not having libproc.so.3.1.9. I tried symlinking the included libproc, libproc-3.2.5, to libproc.so.3.1.9 (knowing it was a bad idea), and these programs complain about not finding libproc-3.1.5. That is not a typo. 3.15, 3.19, 3.25.

Also, when using commands like iwconfig or iwlist, I get a message, "Warning: Driver for device wlan0 recommend version 18 of Wireless Extension, but has been compiled with version 17, therefore some driver features may not be available..."

All of the features that I need are there. I don't use encryption, or even dhcp. Just standard Managed Mode wireless. But RC1 didn't display this, and I don't recall DSL ever doing so. The ndiswrapper upgrade perhaps? Again thank you for that.

It would appear from your post that you are using gnu-utils from DSL. DSL is based on older kernel and libraries and I would not suggest to mix them.

You're absolutely right. I'm very sorry. I was using gnu-utils.dsl.

I always test this stuff on a clean boot before reporting anything (not always, apparently, but I try). I load gnu-utils.dsl automatically on startup (knowing it might cause problems, tho I never seen any till few days ago), and forgot that it was already loaded when I was testing this issue. Sorry to waste your time like that.

That solves libproc. But the wireless extension warning still comes up a lot.

I do see both gnu-utils.dsl and dsl-dpkg.dsl in the dsl-n repository, under 'system' ..
Maybe best if those were removed. I have also seen issues trying to use them in dsl-n.
