OMFG!
Ok, I work with *x for more than a cuple of years now. When i read about DSL I thougt "Hey this could be nice lets take a look at."
But now ... well i looked at your wiki and there's no usefull information to grep from the mainpage (or any link displayed there), i took a look at the Forum and HEY! there's no usefull information! (only some silly guys to laught about)
Well shall I laugh or cry??????????????
Do I realy have to build a lfs and combine it with qemo (i.e.) to have a nice small distribution running from my usb-pendrive?
WTF
I realy would like to use your f*** distribution, you would be glad to have one more skilled _unix_ user i think but hey: you don't give me any usefull information!
Don't understand me wrong, I would be able to install an aplication to an linux or to a real unix running inside an emulator but if i shall use DSL i want to find an easy introduction how to install new aplications inside an embeddet dsl or an introduction how to remaster dsl but nothing to find on your webpage!
Give me a link to some handy Documentation or i'll build my own little linux to run from a pendrive.
You'r kidding with the f* to read from your wiki, forum, faq ... aren't you?
If you realy think i'll try to find out how to work with _YOUR_ project without of any documantation you'r crazy!
Give me a link to a usefull documentation or you lose a skilled unix-admin/programmer and you'll see one guy more using a self-baked unix (well i'd prefere a bsd-system) instead of having one more user and developer.

Please take note of the fact that DSL-N is in version 0.1RC2. That's version zero point one, release candidate two. In other words, it's not even actually been released yet. RC3 is on the way, and has a whole bunch of changes from RC2 even. Once there's a stable release documentation will follow.

Nope. You don't have to use lfs or qemo to run from a usb pendrive. In fact I've never used qemo, but usb drive installs have worked great in DSL. I'm sure it will be equally slick with DSL-N.

Nope. Not with the attitude you're bringing to the table so far.

Go right ahead.

Your loss.
We've all done just fine with the available docs. The forums are a great resource for docs and help as well. Again, once there's a stable release to work from, the wiki will be filled with information from all the people who stuck around to use this thing. If you can't find the info you're looking for, ask in the forums, someone likely will help (if you're not an ass about it).
Finally, if you're that much of a unix god, nothing here should be of any difficulty to you, and your help in creating docs would be invaluable. Documentation for the people, by the people.
--edit--
Just double checked myself before saying this. Sorry to break it to you, but there isn't a wiki for DSL-N yet. Part of your problem is that you've been looking at docs in a wiki that doesn't exist. Or maybe, more likely, you've been looking at a wiki for a different distribution. Either way it doesn't say much about your brilliance... |

I have to be honest and say that I'd like documentation too, but I wouldn't go about asking it in that manner. I figure a more humble approach works best.
I realise that DSL-N is in its infancy so I'm not asking too much of it right now. I enjoy computers as a hobby so this gives me something to play around with. It's good to have control over what the computer does, and reminds me what it was like back in the days when only 'nerds' had computers, and they weren't just another household appliance used by the masses like they are today.
I'm having a lot of fun with DSL. It's the most I've been into Linux. Most people I know have had a dabble with Linux but soon go back to Windows. This distro looks like a keeper for me. I'm getting my mini-itx board soon and building a silent machine. (Love the 'toram' option!) DSL-N will be my daily machine for messenging, skype (when ALSA gets working), email, web and that sort of thing.
As far as documentation goes, I'm a sucker for it. When I figure out how to do something I tend to put it on my handy little webpage so I can refer to it later. (mainly for FreeBSD things, but now everything)
I'm rambling a bit now, but I am basically saying that I love DSL / DSL-N because they have revived the computer hobbyist in me. Good work everyone involved
...now, if only I could get mini-ITX cases and power supplies in Poland |
