I've briefly mentioned this problem before, but now I know a bit more (I think) about what's happening. DSL-N has a blurry screen for most of its text. After doing some hunting around, I found lots of sites talking about the issues of antialiasing fonts.
The thing is, that DSL has a perfect display on the same hardware. But with DSL-N running GAIM for instance, it's just unreadable at times.
I've had a play with DPI settings, but got no noticable change.
It seems to me like something drastic has changed between the two. (yes, I know of course the whole thing is a drastic change!)
Is there a way to make DSL-N look the same as DSL? It's sadly a bit of a show stopper for me, beacuse if I can't bear to look at the screen it puts me off. I just want to know where the difference lies so I can at least attempt to hunt something down and try to figure out what exactly is causing it. |

My hunting has lead me to GTK. They're the apps that look bad now. The hunt continues....
...ie, the apps that use it like Firefox, Thunderbird, GAIM |

Answer! Ok, incase anyone cares, I found a sollution.
I created a file called ~/.gtkrc-2.0
and added this to it gtk-font-name = "Verdana 12"
That sets the font to be used in things like GAIM, Firefox, Seamonkey...
Maybe it's not the best way, as I'm still looking more into it, but it's got me out of trouble |
