|
|
Can this be done? Should I even try?
If I recall, and I haven't actually done this yet with my DSL installation, but shouldn't I be able to just move the iso into the same partition as the DSL iso and reboot?
Or, should I just run the live CD and start again....I don't have a lot of files and settings to worry about.
Thanks!

Yes. If you boot from the CD and use the install scripts, when it comes to the part about upgrade or install, choose install and it will fromat the partition, destoying all of your old data on that partition. Be aware that it will not destroy data on other partitions, so if your DSL backup file is on one of those, or anything else that DSL used, it could mess up your DSL-N install.
Maybe Roberts could change the name of the DSL-N backup file to avoid this type of issue. |

Sounds like a good idea to me.
The DSL-N's filename "backup.tar.gz" is not only shared with the DSL backup/restore process, but it is also possible (not likely, but you never know) that a user could have some file named "backup.tar.gz" sitting on a hard drive that is not associated with a livecd backup and this is also a risk.
Something like dsl-n_backup_tar.gz is a unique name that should eliminate this (very slight) risk. |
