i recently installed dsl-n on my 1 gig USB pendrive. it boots up
fine. i have been having trouble saving one of the application
extenstions: gcc1-dsl. i have downloaded it from the ibiblio site.
it installs fine. the next time i boot back up the app is gone!
the question is how to i save my extension apps?
yes, i did a backup /dev/sda2. i can save files on my home directoryi i do have /dev/sda1. my /cdrom is almost full on 7626 left.
any suggestions would be helpful. anyway great distro just wish i could save my external apps!!
michael
- also my MyDSL does not show all the extensions on ibiblio so i need to wget the apps. |

When you first boot dsl-n, go to the control panel and click the help button.
This will bring up the getting started document that you should read and understand. The MyDSL extensions should be copied off to a partition and then later loaded via the mydsl=hda3 boot option. Or use a mydsl directory and it will be autoscanned during boot. The MyDSL extensions are large and static therefore they should not be mixed in with your backup files.
The blank areas in the mydsl icon tool is because it is displaying a separate area for dsl-n. Not all DSL extensions work with DSL-N. It would be like mixing win2000 dlls with WinXP dlls. You would not expect them to work. So too, with DSL vs DSL-N. Only those extensions that heve been given positive feedback for use in DSL-N have been moved to the DSL-N repository. |

thanks robert.
to save my apps on boot i did:
dsl mydsl=sda2
as my sda1 partition had very little space on it.
for you info:
Xfree86-devel.dsl
gcc1.dsl
gnu-utils.dsl
appears to work fine
i was able to compile the chess engine crafty along with xboard.
those apps work fine.
next issue is getting my wireless card working which is
intel pro/wireless 2100 network card
dmesg showd: lpw2100 detected this card
ipw2100: eth0 firmware 'ipw2100-1.3.fw' not available or load failed
anyway great distro!
- dsl-n is running on the ibm thinkpad t41 - 1 gig memory
- 1 gig usb pendrive |
