Now posted RC3 http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/dsl-n/current/

1. New theme and background
2. New gcombust replaces cdw
3. Added Samba/LinNeighborhood
4. Added Madwifi drivers
5. Added fuse/sshfs
6. Restored fluxter
7. Fixed hard drive install and now on menu.

Reminder: Please test all RCs with the base norestore option.
This will ensure that no conflicts with the 50MB DSL is introduced.
This is very important when main system libraries become down graded.
Carefully test mydsl extensions individually and report results of extension use in the feedback section.

I began using RC3 this afternoon. It is running well on my Via M10000N system with 512Mb ram. It seems much more stable than the earlier releases. All of the "desktop" aps work well as does my dsl line and web surfing.

I still miss my two favorite aps, eboard with crafty, and a c compiler. For some reason I though Tiny CC was included but I can't seem to find it. I would like to have gcc available as a mydsl extension. Is there anything I can do to facilitate the availability of eboard? If you could point me toward a guidline, I would be willing to try my hand at porting it to DSL-N.

Great work!

You're in luck!

gcc is already available as a myDSL extension. Tiny C Compiler is also available as a myDSL extension. Here is the link for mydsl extensions:

gcc and tcc are both available under the system directory. There is another gcc in the testing directory, which is the same version as the stable gcc, but with more libraries.

As for eboard, there are several projects with that name. Are you talking about chess? Or a classroom teaching aid? Either way, if you make an extension out of it, the developers will post it for the rest of us.

Here is a doc to get you started making an eboard (and anything else you want to use/share) DSL extension:

More good news! Eboard is already available as a myDSL extension. However, it is very old (ver .43), so other users would probably appreciate you making another one. It is available under Games. This assumes that you were refering to chess.

Btw, gcc was actually designed for DSL, not DSL-N. However, many of us use it under DSL-N, and few have encountered problems. Just be warned. I have not tested the available eboard extension. Please report what you find.

Thanks, WN

When I checked Mydsl the c compilers were not listed.

The eboard I am interested in is the Crafty chess version. It works with DSL. It was initially available for DSL-N but was not functional. I'll try your link and see what I can come up with.

Thanks, Jeff

Hi ke4nt,

Thanks. This is the first theme that I did. Actually, I just chose a nice theme from fluxbox site, korseby1. Then found a pleasant background of Pico Island, Azores. These two look good together and Pico Island fits with a pico distro. Wink

Hi Roberts,

First thing I always test is whether disk resources on my home network are available. So I noticed that using LinNeighborhood and selecting "Run File Manager after Mounting" requires a file manager to be available!

The ultimate repair tool is probably . It has every conceivable tool available on a LiveCD. But it is probably 10 times as large as DSL.

I hope this post isn't out of line. If it is, I apologize.

DSL-N is excellently supporting RW operations in SATA Hard drives. The speed of loading mydsl modules is also high.

The theme is very beautiful in DSL-N 0.1RC3 except for the fact that

1.I cannot hear any sound while playing songs. Any way i posted that info in Other Help Topics and waiting for reply.

2.There is also a problem in Harddisk install. It installs fine into harddisk but its not installing the bootloader.

Anyway expecting that the stable version might solve all the problems.

The main hosting site for DSL/DSL-N, idistro.ibiblio.org, is currently down. Please try using a mirror.

This being the case is causing a delay for me to post RC4.
