Hello Everyone,
This is my first posting on this forum.
I am interested in seeing if DSL-N RC4 will finally let me connect up to the internet on dial-up.
I know it detects it ( My LT Internal Modem ) in DSL-N RC3 but doesn't let me connect.
You might be thinking that it's a Winmodem, which it is but it's not one of the ones that require windows to work. I know this as my modem works with Linspire and Mepis.
I want to use DSL-N because it's faster on my computer because it won't be slowed down by KDE etc.
I writting this from work so will download DSL-N RC4 from home tonight ( Using Windows ) and try it out.
I believe if DSL and DSL-N can get some dial-up Modems to work, you will get more user coming over to DSL.
In other forums, I am always reading about the frustration of Dial-up Users who want to come over from Windows but can't because of their Dial-Up problems.
Being Able to connect to the Net is most likely the most important use for a computer by most people I know.
So lets hope RC4 has it working this time.
If not hopefully the DSL-N Development team will read this and get it working straight on bootup for thoses not interested in programming. |

Lucent Technologies LT Winmodems are supported and work with both DSL and DSL-N. I am currently on such a device using DSL-N. Because these are not real modems, during the boot I create a link from /dev/modem to the special device. So during the configuration you should select to manually specify the modem device, simply use:
/dev/modem |

Hello Roberts,
So what you are saying is that I should change the line that goes something like /dev/tlls1 and this should allow DSL-N to dial-up.
Lets hope this works.
I am used to KPPP and still are trying to work out the dialer in DSL-N |

Hello Roberts,
Me again! No luck with /dev/modem. I can see my Modem is detected while booting up but nothing happens after I have entered in all my details and I try to dial out. I know DSL-N detects my modem as it is listed in the Hardware list.
I have a feeling that if you were infront of my computer, I would have dial-up very quickly!. |

Before you quit the config, are you sure you are saving your configuration?
Did you select dynamic ip? |
