|
|
I am trying to install DSL-N in VM, but keep running into the same problem. Hopefully someone can help me out.
As SU I created two partitions (using cfdisk):
/dev/sda1 180Mb Linux swap
/dev/sda2 1966Mb Linux bootable
Additionally I also issue the commands:
mkswap /dev/sda1 and
swapon /dev/sda1
Next I install DSL-N with dsl-hdinstall
Answered the questions I am supposed to.
I finalise the installation, but the reboot (sometimes) will not start.
Don't know why.
If it does start, it will not boot from hard disk.
My guess is that the problem lies within the following:
When I get to the question:
Use [G]rub or [L]ilo boot loader? (g/l)
I reply g and then I get the message:
/dev/sda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive
For your information: I am running VMWare Server on a Dell Latitude D620 laptop with Ubuntu Dapper Drake as a primary OS.
The VM for DSL-N has 256M of memory and 2Gb of disk space.
I surely hope that someone can give me a hint on how to get DSL-N running in VM. |

I was able to solve it using the procedure as described in this thread
Maybe it is useful to describe this procedure somewhere specifically (Tips & Tricks?) |

I have never had any luck installing DSL-N to a scsi hd (/dev/sda) under VmWare. Choose a custom install and then choose an lsi controller and then a IDE harddrive setup. Then it installs correctly. You can download a DSL VM from Vmware.com that I submitted (cod2 server) and look at its settings. They are the same that I currently use for DSL-N. |
