im a self confessed heavy user of msn and quite a noob when it comes to linux.
i can do quite a bit really but im struggling to use messenger apps supporting the msn protocol.
i have tried gaim which gives me a warning about ssl libs whenever i try to sign in to messenger.
i have tried ading amsn from the myDSL site which i know is for the normal DSL (not -N) but it was worth a try!! this dies not work via clicking the icon it creates and upon running from bash i get the error "bash: ./amsn: /bin/wish8.3: bad interpreter: no such file or directory"
i even cut my losses and tried a command line based msn client by the name of gtmess but this gives me the error message of 'gtmess: error while loading shared libraries: libncursesw.so.5: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory'
i do like DSL and the idea of it all but if i carnt get messenger to work then i stuggle to make full use of DSL |

well if anyone is actually interested (97 views there must be someone) i have managed to get AMSN to work!!
all you need to do is go to the myDSL downloads section and in there go to the UCI section.
first you have to downoad tcltk-8.4.uci to give you the Tcl/Tk interpreter.
Then within the same section download amsn-0.94.uci for AMSN
load them up and off you go!! dont think the order you do them matters as long as you have the tcltk-8.4 up and running before you try to run AMSN.
Another app we can add to the working list eh!!! |

thanks Petay, this really helps. Plus it is super easy. There's also the option of using which is what I've been using because I've been to lazy to set up gaim or amsn. |

so is there a reason that I can't see the 2 mentioned apps from above in the UCI of MyDSL? My UCI list has 6 things in it.

meebo took about 2 sec to setup all my accounts. I love simplicity, and until I have time to mess around with my gtk/ssl/gaim issue, I will stick with meebo. |

well i think the MyDSL icon on the desktop go's to a list of DSL -N sepcific downloads. You will need to go to the damn small linux site and go to the downloads section. This is the section for downloads you get on DSL now some of these wont work on DSL-N but some will so its a case of just trying it and seeing what happens. |
