|

First of all, I LOVE the distro -- small (damn small!), fast, complete, really spiffy.
Ok, now the issue. I'm running it as a VMware guest under windowsXP (my company makes me). And i'm able to do everything except get the sound card to work.
I looked on VMware's site and they say that VMWare will emulate this sound card:
I/O: 0x220
IRO: 5
8-bit DMA: 1
16-bit DMA: 7
MPU-401 I/O address: disabled
ok, so i run
modprobe sd io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=7
and i get the famous *it broke* error messge:
/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.26/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o: insmod sb failed
dmesg gives:
Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
sb: No ISAPnP cards found, trying standard ones...
sb: dsp reset failed.
So my questions are:
1. is there anyone else running DSL under VMWare who has the sound card working?
and
2. is there anyone who isn't running VMware but has resolved a similar issue?
thanks in advance |

I have sound working in DSL (not DSL-N) working with sound in VMWare Server (out of the box). I have DSL-N in another Virtual Machine, but haven't had a desire to test sound (we don't need it). |

Thanks for the info. Good to know it works anyway.
Would it be too much trouble to ask you to send me a snip from your /etc/modules.conf file?
I'm just looking for the sound area, something like:
options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 mpu_io=0x300
That way i can compare it to mine and see if i'm just off.
thank you |

I don't have any sound related "options lines" The only line is the alias for the sound device:
alias via82cxxx via82cxxx_audio
Then, again, it is DSL and not DSL-Not! |
