|
|
The system was booted from a Sony USB CD/DVD drive, from a freshly downloaded distribution.
An HD install was done to a compactflash mounted on an ide. The system was then booted from the HD. It does not recognize the CD device.
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices shows the device, but says there is no driver.
"modprobe usb-storage" followed by "cat /proc/usb/devices", shows the CD device with the usb-storage driver But, the file manager and mount tool still seem to be unable to mount it.
Also, mount /dev/sda1 fails and nothing obvious shows up under /dev/usb/
So, what do we do now? |

Here is the answer:
Boot the system from the distribution CD.
Mount the hard disk (or flash)
# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
Create the /sys direction on the harddrive, from the running system. (See sysf in wikipedia, or in kernel or driver documentation).
# mkdir /sys /mnt/hda1
Edit the /opt/bootlocal file on the harddrive and add the following line
modeprobe usb_storage
The underscore instead of the hyphen, is important.
Reboot your system now from the harddisk.
You can now mount your CD.
# mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom |
