Here is a tip for USB-HDD

In my bios there was no option for a usb-hdd (just usb-zip,floppy,cdrom)
But there was an option called Hard Disk Boot Priority in which u must set the usb flash disk above your harddrive in the queue. I could then boot my USB

A lot of people probably know this or have a USB-HDD option, but i thought i'd just let people know just in case

My BIOS does not present the option of booting from USB unless the pendrive is plugged in. If you do a cold boot with a pendrive plugged in, select the POST option to go to a boot menu, one can then select a USB boot.

To make it more confusing, these programming geniuses will allow one to specify the pendrive in the permanent boot order. After a reboot without the pendrive, the boot menu shows DISABLED where the pendrive used to be.

Just to make it even more interesting, only certain rear panel ports operated at high speed.

To top it off, the front panel USB ports do not support booting. Apparently, BIOS does not initialize them. Windows XP does support them. Most Linuxes do not.

USB is great, when it works... Wink

Yepper...

I've run across the USB 2.0 ONLY in the rear ports,
and NOT the front "wired" ports issue..
( One of my ASUS boards only offered USB-2.0 on a daughtercard. )
((..the built-onboard ports were ONLY USB 1.1..))

I've also seen where a boxen would NOT BOOT without
using the rear (built-on-mobo) USB ports..

On my old Epox board I could boot from the front usb ports but it was intermittent. Sometimes it would even hose syslinux on the pendrive. So far, I haven't had issues booting from the back ports. I have one of those usb extension cords so I don't have to reach around to the back. Smile
