Hi guys i'm running ... trying... to get RC1 working on my ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2 mobo, but the one thing i need that i don't have is the LAN - can't detect anything and in the 3-4 or so years i've been playing with linux at home i've never needed to use a lan, so wouldn't know where to start.
Where do I start???
thanks guys. |

Hi,
FOR LAN: just plug the cable in your machine, go to the control panel, set up your network parameters (hit wlanconfig; input the name of your network, your wep-key, and so on). Once this done, hit netcarconfig in the control panel in order to be attached to your network. DSL-N normally already selects the channel you have to use (eth0 for me), so that you have just to say OK and to let DSL-N catch your network.
FOR WLAN: in the control panel, set up your network parameters (hit wlanconfig; input the name of your network, your wep-key, and so on). Once this done, hit netcarconfig in the control panel in order to be attached to your network, say 'OK' and let DSL-N catch your network. If it doesn't, you have either a problem with the parameters of your network, or a problem with your wlan card.
Don't forget: DSL-N has the kernel of the knoppix 3.9. Although I didn't experience any issue with this kernel and my wlan-cards, it is possible that you experience some if you have a very recent wlan-card. So that you have then to try to install your card with ndiswrapper (look for more in both of the DSL-N and DSL forums), or to wait for the next DSL-N release which should work with the kernel of the last knoppix (5.0).
I hope it helps a bit
yours
