Damn Small Linux - Not!

I have run DSL on my laptop (ACER Aspire 3000) with a great screen picture. Now I have started to use DSL-N on the same laptop, but the screen is not as sharp as with DSL. It now looks like the same as an LCD that needs its clock/phase adjusted. (ie, some columns of characters are nice and sharp but some aren't.

Could this be some kind of video driver issue? (bit of a guess that) I have no control of clock/phase on the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Basically the tiny X server only provides Xvesa and Xfbdev.
Try the set resolution button in control panel.
That basically displays the result of Xvesa -listmodes

ATM, those are the choices.
Once DSL-N is out of RC phase, then I would expect to see more extensions built specifically for it. Including XFree or Xorg

Thanks for that info. I think I have to confess I was a little hasty when I wrote the first post here, because I just tried my LCD test image (which is a screen full of vertical lines 1 pixel on, 1 pixel off) and that looked fine.

I don't know where that leaves me, but I'm leaning towards fonts or something now because alot of letters seem to be touching each other. I thought that was just a blurry thing, but now don't think so.

I'll have a poke around and see what I can figure out.

Thanks again for the advice, although now I think of it I tried changing the DPI earlier to no avail. It's all good fun though Smile

Ok, I've finally figured out that the problem isn't a problem at all. What it seems to be is that in the address bar of Firefox, the fonts seem slightly thicker and the letters touch each other, making the blurry effect on the text.

The reason I didn't sus it out earlier was because on DSL the first browser that I used (Dillo) but on DSL-N I used Firefox. I am just checking out Opera to verify it, and its text looks good.

So there you have it - something to do with Firefox. Sorry for the disturbance folks - everything's under control.

I found info in various places that says Firefox has antialiasing fonts or something that can't be turned off and that causes blurry writing in small fonts Sad
