User Feedback :: DSL on a Pentium MMX 166MHz

It's probably that "Xvesa" memory leak that is being discussed here in the forum.

Try using jwm instead of fluxbox. Does it still happen?

mmn.. tasty!

i cant believe how well dsl works on an old p1-133 with 48mb ram. I had it running (unbelievably) on a 486-dx4 @ 100mhz with 32mb ram... Unbelievable.

today i discovered the hidden little tasty piece of cake... the dsl control panel!
it gives me hardware details! what other idtsro does that?!?

delicious dsl... my own piece of new cheesecake in an old box!

Welcome to the Revolution!!!

P.S.  Dont keep it a secret!

thanks!
i haven't kept it a secret..far from it! i tested dsl 2 on some school computers to show it off to a friend. It worked EVERY time. Thats something you don't see every day (at least on these pcs, they were all running windows 98).

oh, a quick question... how would you (or could you) get a framebuffer on a VESA 1.2 graphcis card? is it possible?

thanks

You can try the various VESA framebuffer modes listed on the F3 page and see if any of them work.

If not, you are then limited to text mode unless your atticware is compatible with XFree86 version 4.x

You would then install the xfree86.dsl extension and try to get it to work with your card.

Or if really adventurous, you could do a dpkg-restore and then try to install Xfree86 3.3.6 from the Debian repository.

Either way, expect to spend several hours banging your head against a wall trying to make it work.
