User Feedback :: Changing Frugal Boot Options (newbie alert)
I installed frugal DSL, and succesfully installed and modified XFree86 so my touchscreen works. Now I need Alsa to work so macromedia flash sounds right (otherwise it's garbled), and I want to boot toram (for speed).
I've edited /boot/lilo.conf on the boot device (hda1) accordingly (adding alsa and toram cheatcodes), but it's quite obvious that neither toram nor alsa are working (boot screen shows whether this is happening).
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Am I editing the wrong file?
Dang. Figured it out(see http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....tions). Lilo.conf is nothing more than a reference telling you what the MBR is structured to do. You can't change boot options by editing lilo.conf.
It would be nice if the user was made aware of this fact before they install lilo.
What's more, the /usr/sbin/frugal_install.sh script automatically uses lilo without prompting the user. That's what I did. I thought I was under grub until I look in /cdrom/boot and found lilo under the hood.
Ugh! Fortunately it looks like I might be able to install grub without hosing my whole installation.
