cant install ncurses when compiling it says bad version of 'sort' get a good working version, probably another busy box issue, also the shell tells me 'No such file or directory:' for binaries that are quite obviously there e.g
ls -l
rwxrwxrwx bleh
./bleh
./bleh No such file or directory
??
any ideas ? i also had to find a WORKING version of unzip as the busybox version told me that zip was un supported suffix haha

Try loading the gnu-utils mydsl extension and try again. It will replace busybox with all the real utilities.
Additionally, you cannot compile or make in DSL as it is. You'll need to load the gcc extension and possibly a few libraries.
All that aside, if you're wanting to install ncurses, you may not need to go to all that trouble. I remember seeing some ncurses extensions in the repository. Look through here.
./bleh No such file or directory
could mean a library is missing.
DSL in its "stock" form doesnt have any way to compile...thus your problems....
DSL was created to just run on hardware...not become a "light" full bore distro without some work...thus the harddrive install option.
I recommend you read the WIKI and documentation before you lay judgement on the software...
