User Feedback :: 2.2 release no boot on 'Bargain Barebones'

Well, oddly enough, the 2.2 Release will not boot on my new 'bargain barebones'ITX box.  RC1 booted fine.  The release DOES boot on my Toshiba laptop --- go figure.  So, I replaced the minit24.gz file with the one from RC1 and it boots on the barebones.  I don't know much about how this all works, but it seems odd that the release candidate would boot and the release doesn't.

Cornfused

The only difference between the two is the addition of ehci-hcd.o module during the boot. This is noted in the change log. Which is required by your Toshiba and was reported during the release candidate testing. So now you are happy about the Toshiba. But now your itx does not like. You can't have it both ways, so the only option is to try different boot options acpi=off noapic pnpbios=off pci=bios, or adjust your bios options especially having to do with automatic irq assignments. I believe it is correct to include the ehci-hcd module during boot, as this provides USB-2.0 speeds.

Since I bought the ITX machine through this organization to run DLS on (with a Pen drive) I find it strange that it does not run with this release.  Has anyone tried it on the 'bargain' ITX that is offered here with this release ?  It would be nice to know exactly what cheats to use.

Thanks for your input :)

Most likely, you need to enter a

"nousb2"

cheatcode to disable the usb2 module loading, but I am not sure if such a cheatcode exists yet.

A workaround would be to boot in expert mode, ie

expert

and then don't load up the ehci-hcd module.

There is a USB boot issue in 2.2.  We missed it before the release and we are working to figure it out.
