I recommended DSL to the 100 dollar laptop initiative. One of the organizers, Jim Gettys, says they will use DSL as a guidline for how things should be done (they are pretty much committed to RH though).
In a way DSL has already been proven as a 100 dollar laptop initiative because it revives older hardware (100 dollar or less laptops have been revived).
My laptop cost me $100 (Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT 233MMX with 64MB RAM and a 4Gig HDD) and DSL runs great on it. I would love to get involved with that $100 laptop initiative somehow. I want to do a documentary on how Linux has snowballed into a real world-wide digital revolution.
DSL brought my little Compaq Presario 1020 back to life. 120Mhz Pentium, 48MB of RAM and a 1.08Gb hard drive, and you'd think it was 3200+ running Knoppix. I'm very pleased.
