Why do certain apps require a middle mouse button ?
fluxbox tabs are useless without it and earlier this weekend I spent two hours typing up the output from ruby profiling because aterm needs a middle mouse button to copy text...:(
the middle button has not been around for that long and only 1 of my 4 computers has one.
It just seems so inconsistent with standard linux procedure, to make such functionality unaccessible because a mouse only has two buttons...
could a shift + right click be programmed in as an alternative or is there some way to configure X to use a combination to generate a middle mouse click?Dosen't clicking the left and right mouse button at the same time symulate a middle click? A mouse is cheap these days, why not just get a 3 button mouse and leave that frustration behind.

Not in my experience, even after reconfiguring xsetup.shWorks fine for me. The appropriate clause in .xserverc for me is: -2button -mouse /dev/psauxThe middle mouse button/wheel is more than worth paying a few bucks for a newer mouse, and this coming from a guy that never buys anything =o)Next Page...
