User Feedback :: New User needs help

I'm a brand new user, and would appreciate some help. I have DSL installed on a CD, which I boot from. How do I save  configuration data and files to my hard drive and later access them? I don't want to partition my hard drive, or install DSL there. DSL is a fantastic program. Keep up the good work, guys, and any help is greatly appreciated.
