User Feedback :: is dsl secure than debian?

is dsl secure than debian?
i suppose that dsl installed on hard disk is more secure of debian, because the small dsl size respect the trustix philosophy and increase the security.
i have only suppose....whats your way of thinking?

Hi,

yesterday I was testing VNC-server (again) in order to compare it with other remote-desktop servers that I would like to propose to the DSL-Team, and I was very surprised to be suddenly no more able to control my mouse.

I was systematically constrained when I would like to open the mydsl menu in order to check the problem with some app. I had to realize that it was not a technical problem, just someone who has probably a VNC-client and would like to play with my machine...

It was impressive, just as good for me to test the rc.firewall (in the dsl repository) in order to improve the security of my system, as well as to read about the possibility for a hacker to hack DSL even if you use it off of the CD_ROM and run it toram (look at: http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....13741).

Conclusion: everything is possible, however, I wonder if someone really want to loose time in breaking such a creative and non profit distro like DSL.

DSL and Debian cannot be compared. The former is a livecd that works as a frugal install, the latter is a full install.

It depends on what security means to you. If it means running a minimal service, DSL is more secure.
If it means that you can update your distro in one command, including security patches, Debian can't be beaten.

There's no point installing DSL onto a hard drive, since you can use a minimal Debian install cd (28 MB).

I completely agree. This is why I have not spent time in this area.
The hard drive install option is there as a convenience.
I would rather spend time trying to achieve something new, different and interesting.

Hello boys I read willingly what have writer.  I experienced to install debian with the cd minimal, however is very complex and prefer dsl.  Besides, when it chose to unload the environment desktop, also all kde unloaded myself and all gnomes, without to make me choose.  I experienced linux by libranet but does not please myself, is full of programs and occupies a bag space,i dont like it.
Dsl is my operating system favourite
