i did. the same stuff happened. but when I tried 3.0.1 on my desktop the problem did not occur.
so something was changed between 2.4 and 3.0 and 3.0.1 which not related to unionfs which created the problem on my laptop. Any idea as to what that might be?

dsl does not have a 2.6 kernel.oops, I shoud have been more clear...
I used the hwinfo available with Kanotix since my version of DSL did not have this application. I gave it only to list the hardware on my laptop and not as an indication of what is detected with DSL.
