User Feedback :: Endless 'Checking for USB'
Hi,
it seems my computer doesn't like dsl. Everytime I try to boot from the live-cd, the system freezes. Or is it normal that "Checking for USB..." takes five to ten minutes?
I found a quite similar topic in the "booting from usb" section, but I'm not booting from usb (as far as I know). My computer is a notebook and I'm booting from a cd-rw in a dvd-drive.
To test, if it's a hardware problem, I tried several distributions (3.0, 3.01, 2.4) but none worked.
I can run dsl with the "nousb"-option but since I need usb (mouse, storage) I'm not really satisfied with this solution.
I'm not fluent in Technical English and have very little experience with complex command lines and I don't know what to try next.
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Nenedeira

Power issue?
Since you're using a notebook, there's a chance of that... did you try combining power options upon boot?
fiddle around with the bios (press 'del' or 'f2' during boot up to get the menu).
enable the usb options you can find, one by one for each boot to see which one works.
What kind of power issue could that be? I can boot knoppix without having any problems.
i.e. noacpi, etc. See wiki on cheatcodes.
Which version of Knoppix did you try?
