User Feedback :: DSL first impressions

I just tried DSL last night on an old pc I had that was about to go in the garbage. It was a 500mhz celeron with 64mb of ram. I have tried several different distros and live cd's from most of those on several machines of varying ages. DSL is the first and so far ONLY live cd to load up , promptly and recognize ALL of my hardware !!! :p  It JUST WORKED right off the bat !!! Once inside it was very easy to navigate , I had not read any docs so that I would have a real idea of how easy it was to figure things out on my own. The layout seemed logical and I found everything I wanted.
(In honor of AwPhuch:) Welcome to the revolution!

It's very satisfying getting usable speed and functionality out of an older computer. I recently realized that I don't have any computers in the house less than, I think, about 6 years old, and most of these would be considered discardable by many:

- circa 2000 Mac PowerBook G3 400MHz (Mac OSX 10.3.9)
- Toshiba Portege 600MHz PIII notebook (DSL 3.0.1 & Win XP Pro)
- Dell Dimension GX1 450MHz PIII desktop (DSL 3.0.1)
- Dell Dimension L550r desktop, purchased for $25 with 512MB of RAM and later upgraded from 550MHz to 1GHz PIII (SLAX 5.1.7 booted to RAM from CD, no OS on the HD)
- microPC (model ?) flexATX-based desktop, upgraded from 550MHz to 800MHz PIII (Ubuntu 6.06)

All of these run acceptably fast for me and give me access to a huge array of Linux, Mac and Windows applications (and it's a heck of a lot of fun tinkering with the hardware and with the different OSs). SLAX in RAM is nice, but DSL is nicer no matter how it's booted.

Awphuch is here too ?
He seems to turn up everywhere.

I haven't been reading enough recent posts to tell how active AuPhuch has been lately, but for a long time he's been one of many frequent and helpful contributors to this board. (And he often greets new DSL users with "Welcome to the Revolution!")
