User Feedback :: DSL Roxors!



I've spent several hours during the last couple of weeks trying to upgrade my Dell Latitude CPi without actually purchasing another copy Windows XP.  I've run various linux distros in the past and was excited to find PuppyLinux, promising multiple small-footprint options that all work with older hardware.  Great, just what I needed!  Unfortunately I have yet to ONCE get this machine booted up on Puppy, either from the CD or a hard disk install.  So I gave up, downloaded DSL, burned to CD, and BAM!  Booted and surfing the net in 90 seconds!

What the fahel????!!!

Evidently it didn't have any problems with my ancient mobo and cpu, small RAM and TrueMobile PCMCIA wireless card whatsoever.

Now for the fun part, replacing all my apps.....
Actually, I find replacing the apps to be the most fun.  Especially once you look at the ones already installed, as many of them can already do what trhe bigger ones can, only easier.

I've been a big fan of Open Source projects for awhile now, and web-based apps too.  Between Google.com and AJAXLaunch.com all I need is an internet connection - I almost don't need a hard drive!  I was a bit surprised when I went through the list of apps on my laptop.  There were very few apps that were difficult to replace with freeware/open source software.  I think I even found a GPS/Street Atlas replacement!
You may already be aware of these, but if you're into web applications, take a look at zoho.com and eyeos.org.
