User Feedback :: USB Mouse and Keyboard in XSetup

First of all, I have no experience with Linux. I installed DSL onto a CD and booted the Computer from it, no problem. However, DSL didn't recognize my mouse, which are connected to my normally Windows XP computer by USB. From the Wiki I found that I would need to configure this from xsetup. (I think DSL recognized my keyboard, because when it asked to press enter to continue, I did, and DSL continued...I Don't think this was a coincidence). Before I mungle around in XSetup, I thought I should ask someone with experience how to do so step by step. How do I get DSL to recognize my USB Mouse/Keyboard? How do I save these settings for the next time?

OK, here are some other things I found out. When DSL prompts for <enter> , F2, or F3, the keyboard works. After typing in dsl xsetup <enter>, the keyboard no longer works; at the screen with options xvesa, xsomething, ok, and cancel, I cannot control the keyboard. Also while booting, DSL gives a message something like this

locatings USB devices
found one: hotplug: sync [001 001 001 001]
...
Cannot locate module block-major...

I couldn't get it all down, sorry.

After running xsetup, choose USB mouse. What kind of keyboard do you have?

usually block-major-* errors are something to do with storage devices i think... that couldn't be loaded.

You can use `dmesg` for a system log.
