User Feedback :: starting DSL on a 233mhz 32Mo RAM
Hi all,
I am new on DSL, I am french and I started the DSL 3.1 on my PC as mentioned in the title...
I booted with dsl lang=fr
then I chose screen mode number 6 (800x600x16)
I got to the desktop and first page of explanations. I closed it and clicked on DSL panel to choose my keyboard latin9fr then I typed xinit to restart xwindows
But I got the message :
setting the locale failed
please check that your localesetup
language =fr
LC_All=(unset) etc.
What can be done to fix this problem ?
Thanks for your advice
Next question will be :
How do I make new partitions on my HD before starting the frugal installation ?
And how do I start the frugal install ?
Thanks for your replies
Afaik dsl only comes with the english language, but using different keyboard layouts will still work. (ie try booting without the lang=)
For quick reference, you may see the startup page that pops up in dillo (or see http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Local_Startup_Documentation )
Hi,
I managed to create 2 new partitions on my hda for the frugal install of DSL according to the FrugalHowto.pdf :
the already existing linux-swap partition for my ubuntu to be used for DSL as well.
I booted with the DSL 3.1 CD and typed dsl 2 at boot.
Then came the command prompt :
root@tty1[/]#
I then typed : /usr/sbin/frugal_instal.sh and I got the answer :
bash: /usr/sbin/frugal_instal.sh: No such file or directory
What am I going to do now ?
Thanks for your reply
OK the frugalHowto.pdf is outdated !
I started again with the wiki frugal tip and chose "install" from the boot and Nr. 4 "frugal grub hard drive install"
after some time I rebooted the PC but nothing has been written into my already existing grub menu
I wanted to test the frugal install on my hda where I already got the ubuntu 6.06 Dapper and winxp installed
What shall I do now ?
Is there a guide for the latest versions of DSL to install in the most common and advised way ?
A new updated pdf ?
