mostly 'yes' to all your questions. but there is a learning curve. you have to be quite patient. I think it wise to try some more linux distributions first and pick the one you like.
http://distrowatch.com/I agree.. There is a bit of a steep learning curve the first few months.. Then it becomes more of a challenge, the chase gets good. After running debian almost exclusively for the last 12 months tonight I felt the need for some music.. debian, not a hope!! Eventually in desperation I set up my old pentium (the one I rebuilt last year.. yup.. it's me I'm back), fired up my old DSL live disk, and within a few minutes I'm listening to 9fm illinois. Not bad for 12+ year old hardware. What can I say.. none of the other live distros found the souindcard (some antique ISA thing).. Superb!
I did eventually install my old DSL release, and use the disk every time I need to format a drive. Essential for slackware installs ;) Need proof?? http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h226/janrocks/screen1.jpg That was (I believe) on my old PIII 450, and has been posted all over the place on forums every time somebody wants to see linux.
Keep up the great stuff guys.. I'm off now to download the latest release.. Lifesavers..
Never be without your DSL disk.. It will save your skin/sanity one dayHi Janrocks,
Did you say "12+" year old hardware?? Amazing. Got a link to that?
