User Feedback :: New release ? When ? :-)

" Slackware " distro directly from CD

You want Slax = slackware livecd. It's quite good.

Well, the only thing I want is to have a working DSL on my new computer with SATA-DVD-Rom and SATA-harddisk support.

As I need DSL only on an USB-pen, I could install it via CD-Rom on my old computer and run it then from USB on my new computer.

Nevetheless, there is the problem with the nforce-onboard-networkcard. This is not supported with kernel 2.4.26. Therefore I wanted to try kernel 2.4.31 from the DSL 2.1b version.

I tried the newest Knoppix, but this has the 2.6.xx kernel.
In order to know if the next DSL release with kernel 2.4.34 will work with my new computer, I have checked for another distro with a newer 2.4.xx kernel. The only I found was slackware. Slax, the live-cd, only supports the kernel up to 2.4.28. I don't know if it is worth to try it (burn it to CD).

If it is only a question of some days, I will wait for the new DSL and hope that everything works well.
But who can tell if it is only a question of days or if it is a question of weeks or months till we have the first new release candidate? :)

As I posted earlier, I am going to keep the DSL v3.x series going.

I am concurrently working on a major release for DSL.
It will have a 2.4.34 kernel, but also a new look with some core changes but with the same goal of 50MB.

It will likely be in the next few weeks. I expect a long release candidate cycle, as many modules will need to be built and tested in the core and in some extensions.

I will post the kernel development tarball so the community can help build and test modules for the equipment that they have.

Stay tuned.
