User Feedback :: Newbie to DSL

Rox doesn't "cause" problems. Geez.

If you use rox, just switch to jwm (you can switch from the menu) and turn off xtdesk (icontool in the menu). It runs very well in jwm. The "problem" with fluxbox is it funks up the icons you drag to the pinboard (desktop).

Mplayer needs more codecs only if you want to play newer wmv's or newer Quicktimes..

If you don't boot with "toram" the usb procedure isn't loading to ram, just mounting KNOPPIX from the iso, only kernel & initrd being in ram.. Unless you're using the initrd edition of course, that always loads fully to ram..

Ultrafast course to remastering DSL core:
Get cloop-utils to your main system, or boot DSL. do "extract_compressed_fs KNOPPIX > knoppix.iso" after cd to the dir where KNOPPIX is. It will uncompress the core .iso. Then copy the contents of that iso to somewhere writable, remove what you want/edit the files you want, and pack it back up with "mkisofs -R thedir | create_compressed_fs - 65536 > newKNOPPIX". Then just replace the old KNOPPIX with this new one.

I meant running into problems, not of rox's fault though. I'll try installing it and disabling the other stuff.

I read the wiki, and must have missed a bit on persistance on usb drives. Can someone direct me or explain this? After i've got this right, i don't need to reload the mydsl extensions on boot?

And im assuming all files have to remain within the root of the drive for it to work correctly? And what isn't necessary, eg german.kbd, health.iso or the components folder?
Thanks.
