User Feedback :: restoring webdata when booting

Is there a cheatcode to restore webdata from my FTP server while booting? I could then use the standard DSL CD and still have my custom settings (XF86, Firefox settings and bookmarks, Email, etc.) wherever I boot.

I've searched for "webdata AND restore" in the forum but I found surprisingly few discussions about this great tool.

you know? you can backup essentially anything and everything in DSL either with your usb thumb drive or hard drive. The point is to what degree you would like it to be done.
For example, if you separate your data in another HD partition, you can "mount --bind " your partition to a directory using /etc/fstab every time you boot up your system.
Like this,
/share/share/html /var/www/html none bind 0 0 # when it is in a different directory
/dev/hda8 /var/www/html ext3 defaults 0 0 # when it is in a separate partition

Or you can include the directory in your .filetools and save all your data in usb thumb drive. boot time include restore=sda1 (for usb drive or whatever drive you are using). Remember, depending on the size of your data, this could take long for your to backup and restore.

I did not go as far as system restore with webdata. The reason for this is that many DSL systems do not have internet access immediately available. Many have their settings in the backup. In fact some DSL systems have other needed hardware settings in their backup. If you hardware has needed setting in your backup then it would be useless. It becomes a catch-22.

However, that is not to say that it is not a good idea and something that could be incorporated with additional boot code and cli prompts. Something for me to consider. When I was first writing this script, I was pushing for DSL to boot vga=normal, as this would help in initial cli screen access. However, at that time, the community wanted the higher res vga=791 to see tux and for some multiple tux.
