User Feedback :: keyboard config in dsl 4.2.1

I installed DSL4.2.1 on my 5-year old Inspiron 8100.
Everything looks good except the keyboard.
Firstly, the volume up/down buttons don't work. I press the buttons but don't see any change in volume. I decrease volume in XMMS using mouse to 1%. But it is still too loud. Any other way to further reduce volume? In m$ windows, the volume panel has two slidebars to control sound output.
Secondly, alt key doesn't work properly. I ssh to a linux machine. Alt key doesn't work in emacs running at the remote machine. DSL bash captures the alt-key input. When I press alt, text in DSL bash turns dark. Is there anyway to pass altkey to the remote emacs???

Thanks & Happy new year

Try using dmix.
Look in Apps folder then Sound folder.

The Alt key has been discussed recently, likely need to edit your .jwmrc-keys files.  Try changing nextstack to next in Alt Tab sequence. See if that helps you.

In addition to changing the alt-tab in .jwmrc-keys as Robert suggested, you can go old school emacs with it: use the escape key (e.g., escape-x escape-c).

Volume keys aren't standard keyboard keys... and if they rely on a software mixer, you can probably do something with xmodmap (or X config) and/or your wm's keys configuration, etc.

Thanks! Alt-key works now.
