User Feedback :: How do you install DSL?
I have downloaded dsl-0.9.1.iso and burned a cd. I inserted it in an "old" 133mhz pentium pc with 64K ram and a compactflash (64mb) for an ide drive. When I attempt to boot from the cd, All I get is:
BOOT FROM ATAPI CD ROM: CD-ROM CDU-701
1. FD System Type - (00)
I can't find any documents about DSL. Can some one help me?
Thanks
jcj
Hook the CF to IDE up to another computer and do a frugal install to it.
Swap it back into that box, and BOOM! You got DSL on atticware.

Please pardon my ignorance, but what is a frugal install?
Oops, just noticed a glaring error in my original post, it should be 64m of ram instead of 64K.

basically, browse the forums on how to install DSL to a CF card, and do it on another computer, then bring the CF card back to the computer you want run DSL on and whammo, DSL is there. It generally consists of this:
1. Search forums for type of install you want to do
2. Burn CD for that install (as of this writing 0.9.1 is the latest ISO image to burn to CD)
3. Boot up into the CD on another (the 'mother', we'll call it) computer, with the CF card hooked up to the 'mother' computer. Once you're in X windows, right click and find apps -> tools -> Frugal install / or Install to USB Drive
4. Do the Install to the CF card on the mother computer
5. Shutdown mother computer, move CF to 'daughter' computer.
6. Hook up to daughter computer, whammo....DSL on daughter computer.
Like i said, there is good documentation for doing this on the forums...Please search for it! It's there. If you get stuck anywhere else be sure to let us know here on the forums or on irc at irc.freenode.net in #damnsmalllinux
Thanks to both for your comments. I have been able to use your information to create a compactflash card version of DSL. Several solutions were required to finish the job.
1. As pointed out, I need to use a more powerful pc to install to the compactflash.
2. I needed a larger compactflash card. I settled on a 256mb card.
I still have an open problem. The system that I used for installing to the CF card had a ps2 mouse, while the system that the CF card now resides in has a serial mouse. I have tried mouseconfig and also xsetup.sh to configure the serial mouse, but it never responds to the change. The mouse was working previously. Any thoughts on what I must do to make the change?
Thanks for you help in the past.
