User Feedback :: optional menu appearing twice in 1.3

I've done my first frugal hd install with 1.3 - with grub - very nice !

I've added the boot option mydsl=hda1 as i have an optional folder on here which wasn't appearing otherwise ??

the .dsl's i put in the root of hda1 were there without the mydsl=hda1

however I now have the optional menu appearing twice, can anyone else tell me if they get this or if it is just me or a problem with a frugal hd install ??

The /optional directory was created way back in version 0.7.1
mainly for having extra extensions on the mydsl.iso and not
auto-load but instead to offer a menu for them. This intended
use is no longer what is trying to be achieved and is no longer
necessary.

Today with DSL having so many new ways to install, and alternate
ways to load extensions dynamically it has been
discussed and decided that /optional will be deprecated
in the next release.

I would suggest to use many of the newer alternate methods.

Reasons for deprecation:

1. Not available when used with toram (users wonder why no menu!)

2. Confusing to new users with /opt (users put the extensions here and
again no menu!)

3. Having a submenu not really needed with all the buttons added to emelfm
to easily navigate and click to load.

4. Also, now offering mydsl directories seems to lessen the value of
/optional, again can boot from these, or emelfm on them for later loading.

5. Typically it would grow to an unwieldily size.

Thanks for the insight roberts. I have been using /optional for a while now, but I realize what you said as being true. It is not really needed. Also thanks for keeping us up to date about it being depreciated in the next release.
Thanks I'll bear that in mind and use emelfm for occasional optional things
damianiw,

While playing around with frugal USBHDD install, I learned that the /optional directory will appear twice IF you add the "mydsl=xxx" command even though the /optional directory is already located in the same partition as your /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX file.  So I would remove the mydsl=xxx command from your append statement and see if it goes away.
