User Feedback :: boot on older all scsi Pentium ll

I bought the small cd and pendrive from DSL store and they both boot on my new machines embedded nicely.  Wireless even works through XP and 98.  I had hoped for a unified operating system for the new and old machines.
Probem is my all scsi, hd ,cd rom, cd burner, jaz hangs after splash screen first two lines, and word "Ready"  Knoppix 3.4, 3.7, and 4,0 all do the same thing and SUSE 9.3.

Do I need to load somesort of driver with the floppy?

I tried all the boot switches including failsafe.

Somewhere in my search of posts I read about older systems needing syslinux?  Is that a boot loader of sorts?

I would appreciate any pointer to the solution.   An old floppy boot of BSD and Turbolinux seens to get farther along then the live cd system.

Maybe I can get the floppy boot to point to the usb pen drive?

Thanks,

Mort
