X and Fluxbox :: Lost Icons

Hi,

Im reasonable new to linux, so please excuse the ignorance...

I have just managed to do a HD install of DSL on a pentium 120Mhz,32mb ram machine, and it seems to be running well.

However, following the HD install all the desktop icons have dissapeared...

Any suggestions on how to bring them back?

Thanks

Justin

POST EDIT - Worked it out, thanks

Normally the icons wont disappear after any installations. Sounds new.
Sankarv, After the HD install, the icons dissapeared. And they still dont automatically show on start up. Only after selecting the enhanced desktop option from within the right click menus did they appear.

Any ideas on how to avoid this inconvenience?

First try running the command "xtdesk" from an X shell.  See if there are any error messages displayed.

If no errors, look in your .xinitrc file to see if there is a line like this:

Hello,

I had exactly the same issue.

I could see the icons load briefly and then they dissappeared. This seemed to happen randomly, as I was stil playing with DSL I just rebooted and it seemed ok.

I then ran xtdesk as suggested and found that one of the *.png files in the .xtdesktops was 'corrupt'. I just removed that .png file, right clicked on the desktop/Desktop/Full Enhanced Desktop and bingo! I had my icons (except the one I deleted). However I can easily recreate that by creating a new *.lnk file with an appropriate png file.

Thanks
