X and Fluxbox :: Desktop Icons
Anybody know what specifically controls the desktop icon behavior?
I'm remastering DSL and have stripped out the icons and lnk files from /etc/skel except for Firefox.
I changed the Caption: entry for Firefox but when I go into Fluxbox my new caption is off the left of my display.
I've played with hard setting the X and Y coordinates but when DSL reboots they are lost.
I don't really want to include this file in backup.tar.gz since it's a remaster.
Any pointers?
/etc/skel/.xtdesktop/xtdeskrc controls the layout and appearance of the icons.
I'm not sure why your caption would be off to the left.
Dude change your setting to use double click in the icon tool, then drag and drop your icons where you want them then switch it back to single click remember to turn off the auto align for icons so they stay where you put them.
I had found /etc/skel/.xtdesktop/xtdeskrc and tried to hand edit that file with my own settings. When I change things and re-launch startx my icons disappear. It's like the file becomes corrupt and doesn't load?
I never found the icon tool before so this morning I adjusted settings with the icon tool until they looked right and then copied from /home/dsl/.xtdesktop/xtdeskrc to $remaster/etc/skel/.xtdesktop/xtdeskrc and created a new ISO that should have had the updated changes.
After rebooting (boot: dsl bootfrom=/dev/my/new/iso) my desktop icons appear off to the left like I don't want them. I cd /home/dsl/.xtdesktop/ and cat xtdeskrc and my updated settings are there so now I'm really confused where/how something else is controlling the desktop layout?
EDIT: don't run startx when you're in ~/.fluxbox or subdirs. I got it to work after realizing this.
Ah, in previous versions of dsl, I found I had to cd into ~/ before running startx or else some problems would happen.
