X and Fluxbox :: Only 640x480 works in color

Greetings, All,

I've been able to successfully install DSL on my P120 16MB RAM 1GB HDD laptop (an Acernote 370c with no CD).  However, the only screen resolution that works in color (32 bit according to the xsetup.sh script) is 640x480.  This would not be a total tragedy, except that this mode only uses part of my LCD screen.  The desktop only appears on part of the screen, and the outside border is dark, like a big frame around the smaller 640x480 portion.

I can get the whole screen to light up in 800x600 mode, but only in a clunky amber monochrome.  I've tinkered with the various settings of xsetup.sh, but I've come to the conclusion that I might need to tweak a config file somewhere.

Any ideas?  All suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

dellengwyn

You may be able to find a mode that will work for your system.

DSL/3.0.1 on a Compaq Elite LTE 4/75cx w/16MB RAM

The previous poster referenced an article in the DSL Wiki:

http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Vga%3Dxxx

which suggested running the command "Xvesa -listmodes", in order to determine valid video modes for the host, and derive a "vga=xxx" entry for use with xfbdev in setup.sh

However, when I run "Xvesa -listmodes", the following error message is displayed:

Xvesa: error while loading shared libraries: libXfont.so.0: cannot open shared object file; No such file or directory

And, indeed, libXfont.so.0 is not present on my hard-drive installation.

A newer version of libXfont is present on my Fedora Core 5 workstation...

Any help finding the package in which libXfont.so.0 lives, so that I can use apt-get to install it?

TIA!
