X and Fluxbox :: Using Fluxbox themes?

Hello,

I'm new to DSL and Linux in general. I'm running DSL off my laptops hard drive. I have downloaded from Fluxbox themes, but I have no idea how to use them. Where should I put them on my hard drive and what commands do I need to run to get Fluxbox to use the new theme?

Thank you in advance!

Extract them into /home/dsl/.fluxbox.  If the package is properly built to include "backgrounds" and "styles" directory structure it should extract fine.  If not you will need to put each file in its place.  Background image, if any, goes in /home/dsl/.fluxbox/backgrounds, and the style file itself goes in /home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles.  If everything goes smoothly you should have your new style listed in the fluxbox menu, under the "Desktop" submenu.

There are styles available from the myDSL repository that are properly installed using MyDSL.

Some things that might prevent a style from working in DSL:

A background set with a tool that is not available in DSL.  Often fluxbox styles will want fbsetbg. If the background does not work you will probably need to change the "RootCommand" line in the style to a program that DSL has, such as xsri.

Styles that utilize features of newer versions of Fluxbox.  If the style uses pixmaps it will not work properly, or not at all. Also, styles made specifically for Fluxbox 0.9.15 and newer may not set a background at all in DSL.
