X and Fluxbox :: trackball mouse problems in 0.6.2

I use an external trackball mouse on my laptop because the one on the keyboard is such a pain.  It works great using 0.5.3.1 DSLinux.  When I try to use 0.6.2 the pointer zooms around all over the screen launching stuff at random.  Any ideas on what if anything to try.  Nothing so far seems to make any difference.
