X and Fluxbox :: help me please i am a pathetic newb.

Yes CappyCaffeine, same as you I've read thousands of pages of LDP, but never once have I seen how to handle the "boot:" command.... I've since read in these pages just hit enter, well say "Hit Enter" and even the noobiest noobie and I would understand.
true, the command line can be daunting to people who have been weaned on GUIs.. Most newer distros load a bootloader to MBR that is "kinda" graphical in nature, and try to get to the graphical init level automatically.

You are correct that many ppl leave linux due to the learning curve, but if found that if a somewhat knowledgable linux user helps a newbie, they often come around.

Thank goodness for busy message boards!

Cappy

A lot of distros also have instructions on what to do at the boot: prompt, ie. press enter to boot, F1 for help, F2 for boot options, F3 for kernel stuff etc etc.  I know F1 works on DSL cause I had to use it to get my laptop going.
