X and Fluxbox :: Desktop Sharing (VNC)

How can I do desktop sharing like KDE (vncviewer)?

We need:

- power failure?  It boots up without stopping for a manual FSCK (never mind any lost files!) and goes straight into xmms and plays /home/foo/baar.m3u   (autostart  xmms -p)

- We can remotely log into this desktop from a windows machine, and operate the running xmms. (re-arange playlist). Whence the connection crashes -- then xmms keeps playing. I understand that a broken X11-display-connection takes the running apps with it to hell, so that won't be an option for remote-control.

- sshd (autostarting)

so far I am too dumb to even get it to start into the desktop without asking for login/passw. Never mind the auto-start xxms.

what I found out:

dpkg-restore
apt-get install xmms-volnorm
YEY  (we now have a compander, compressor!)

I tried KNOPPIX and KDE, where auto-login, .kde/Autostart and DesktopSharing are all available, but xmms (!) crashes after a few days. Maybe xmms-volnorm is buggy?

I can enter a   reboot -f  into the init.d script where it
gives the "manually check with fsck" - message. In other word I hacked the script, and knoppix, upon power-failure, will boot twice, but then restarts kde.

please help! I'll send you a freebie of our station!!!

I also would like to know how to start vncserver at boot.

Ive tried loads of things after hours of googling and nothing seems to work

I made a script but i get "can't find "Xauth" on your path"

its driving me mad.

Me right now, I found a lovely vnc server program at www.realvnc.com, but it doesn't work the way it's supposed to.  On Winbl0ws (about a week ago when I still had that) it worked great - shared the desktop perfectly.  However, I've not been able to do that on Linux - when I run the VNC program from somewhere else, I get a lousy desktop, with none of my enhanced features, and can only open a terminal.  I want to be able to control the desktop I have running right now !
there is a package available in the testing zone ...

Think about that for a second, then stop thinking and grab the line that says "export PATH=...." and stick your vnc server below that.  If it still can't find the Xauthority, then try sticking it in your .xinitrc just above your wm (the line should normally say "fluxbox")

have fun.
