X and Fluxbox :: xvesa help

I'm trying to change my resolution to get my picture clearer, but whenever I try to run xvesa, it says:

Cannot modify xvesa settings because xvesa isn't running.

Something along those lines.
How do I run xvesa if thats the case?
Is that xfree86 better?
I am running dsl on my xbox using the standard red/yellow/white cables on a tv monitor.

run xsetup.sh
then run startx
