X and Fluxbox :: Old boring X questions again..
Hi all!
I'm trying to get DSL going on some old P166:a, 40 MB RAM. with a stoneage "S3 TRIO 64V" card. I was going to do a HD install, since all I can get running on this one is boring old win98 (who wants it?)
Sad enough, all I get is a huge blue & gren screen, or a huge blue and pink screen, and that's it. I tried all that cryptic modes that were presented to me at startup but none did the trick. I also read this forum and tried the "dsl xsetup vga" thing, but if i choose fbdev I get a message about a broken pipe, can't connect and are thrown out in the console?
Are there anything else I can try, or, do any of you know about some other dist that I could get going on this old machine.
TO choose xfbdev during xsetup...
you HAVE to bootup with the "fb800x600" ,
or "fb1024x768" command INSTEAD of "dsl" ...
Give it a try..

I have booted up to quite a few P1's. Sometimes I use the 'knoppix vga=normal' bootcode and then choose xvesa, 800x600 16bit.
If I don't do this I get the undefined mode error. So far, it has worked for me every time.
Good luck.
Chris
So, i should use fbdev800x600 at the boot prompt instead of the "dsl" thing? I'll definietly give it a try , as soon as i get away from this old office.. thanx!
Oops! I think it DSL it is actually "dsl vga=normal"!
