X and Fluxbox :: KDE (OH MY!!!)

hey guys,
got a couple of questions on KDE
first let me explain what i did

fresh hd-install
enable apt
change debian servs in etc/apt/sources.list to unstable
apt-get update
apt-get dist-update
apt-get install kde

k now everything installed fine (execept some pcmia drivers which im pretty sure dont affect this)
but when i go to sudo startkde in commandline it fails, gives me a "failure to connect to xserver" but if i type it in from an xshell in flux it starts up as an app.

and one other thing is;
if i ever get this problem fixed;
how do i make kde my default display manager?
would i just comment out the fluxbox line in .xinitrc
and somehow addin startkde?

well whenever i get it grilled to perfection, I'll make a detailed how-to
so no-one will have to go through this again. (P.S. im not leaving flux, i just got the go ahead from my family to make linux the full desktop, as my mom just got linux at work, just as long as it has KDE, Mozilla, and OpenOffice, so all i got to do is get KDE running along with KDM)

Maybe this will work:

sudo su dsl
startkde

comment out your fluxbox line using the #

and write a line under it, startkde.

Goodluck!

did you install Xwindows first?  You need X.org or XFree86 to get KDE to work properly, atleast that's what I had to do.
try apt getting x-window-system, i am not sure if kde will work with kdrive.
