X and Fluxbox :: Forcing Resolution on cmd line VIA M10000

I tried starting dsl with dsl vga=795 ( i think )...tried the fbdev1280x1024 and tried forcing mode on the command line with XVesa and all I get is 1024x768 res with 1280x1024 workspace......
are there extra driver files needed for the onboard VIA VGA on the M10000....I think its the CL266 chipset.

Knoppix starts up with no intervention in 1280x1024....
