X and Fluxbox :: Gdk-Warning ** what's that?

mmm..thinking it twice: before I install xfree86 and run the risk of messing it up, is there an easy way to get frame buffer work. i mean is there any module I should enable...any command I can use to make this happen..say to load framebuffer module, then shutdown xserver, run xsetup.sh again and choose framebuffer, then add it to the automatic tasks that the os do when booting..

if there's no way, i'l go xfree86; I've downloaded the dsl extension..

Trying the XF86 thing on a Compaq 1520DM with 49Mb RAM.
I am running  "out of space on device" before I can get anything done. I have a 200Mb swap partition as well.
Will doing a hard drive install alleviate this problem while still using the 200Mb swap?

If you have the space and are able to partition your hard drive a HD install may be worth while.  Remeber when running from CD your HD is actually your RAM so you are limited.  Even with a swap file an app needs to be in ram to run, that is it can't have half of the app (i.e. X or Firefox or Fluxbox, etc...) in ram and the other half in swap.  Running from CD or with the toram option uses alot of space that may be needed for apps (and X is an app).  If you install to HD, atleast until you know what you need to have a MYDSL remaster, then you can do alot of testing.  If you are planning on keeping an HD install and you can afford it make a partition to store your files on if you need to reinstall DSL.
brianw, thanks for the tip.

I did an hd install, and now it seems that xfree86 may work. At least it does not complain about being out of space. However, I have not been able to get xfree working, methinks that is due to improper configuraion of the Config-4 file. Tis a bit frustrating, but I hope to cheat and find one online that I can use, but so far, I have not.
