X and Fluxbox :: Yet another "Styles" question...
Hi all,
How in the world can I change the "style" of my installed DSL 0.92? This system has no CD, network or internet connection, but I did manage to get the files on it for a poor man's install. Then I used the "dsl-hdinstall" script to do a real hard drive install. All I have is v. 0.92, so that's what I used (I'm on a dial up, so even a 50mb download is huge for me).
I got the install set up OK, and found a really nice OSX-like style I want to use (OSX-Graphite-2.6.tar.bz2) from the Flux site, but how do I install it? I searched the hard drive for anything that might look like Flux or style settings... where are they? How do I use this ".tar.bz2" file? Yeah, I'm a newbie and this "simple task" has me stumped...
Thanks,
Paul
Untar and unbz2 the style file and copy the style into your
/home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles
directory. FYI, files and directories that begin with a "." are hidden in Linux and you should push the "H" button in emelfm to make them visible.
Something like this. Open an xterminal window and type:
tar -jxvf OSX-Graphite-2.6.tar.bz2 -C /home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles/
It should work unless the file is tarred into a subdirectory. Then you will need to use Emelfm to copy the file back up to the directory mentioned above.
Ok, I did as you suggested and now have a /home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles/OSX-Graphite-Normal/ directory that contains the "theme.cfg" file and "pixmaps" directory.
Now how do I load this style? Should it appear in the menu or do I have to manually add it to the menu?
Thanks,
Paul
It should automatically appear in the Fluxbox menu at the bottom of the list.
Unless this style is intended for a newer development version of Fluxbox instead of the stable Fluxbox program that comes built into DSL.
If so, there is a fluxbox dev extension in the mydsl repository.
I think cbagger is correct. The "theme.cfg" styles are a more recent addition, and may not work in flux stable. The pixmaps at least won't work.
