X and Fluxbox :: X - Funny colors on second PC

I've installed DSL to a hard disk and it works great.

However, when I cloned (using dd) the hard disk and put it in PC's with different hardware configurations it seems to be pretty random at getting the video card working correctly.

The DSL live CD or clean install finds the new hardware just fine ?

Is the video / hardware auto-detection turned off once it's installed onto a hard disk? If so how can I turn it back on.

If you used dd to clone it, then you have the .xserverrc and all associated hardware settings from your origional system on your new box. You need to re-run the xsetup.sh command and that should fix the problem (assuming you can write to your disk).
